Position Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the branch and field teams, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, profitably, and at a consistently high-quality standard. This role owns daily production planning, scheduling, labor management, and field execution – while partnering closely with Account Management and Branch Leadership to deliver an excellent client experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations: Plan and oversee service delivery across all maintenance crews. Set weekly priorities and ensure routes run efficiently.
- Develop field leaders: Coach supervisors and crew leaders, set clear expectations, evaluate performance, and hire/train to build a strong team.
- Ensure quality: Conduct regular site inspections, address issues quickly, and reduce rework through coaching and accountability.
- Resolve customer issues: Take ownership of service concerns from start to finish and protect customer retention through clear communication.
- Manage productivity and costs: Review weekly performance data, control labor and materials, and ensure jobs meet margin targets.
- Plan staffing and scheduling: Align crew capacity with workload demands and manage seasonal transitions.
- Oversee equipment readiness: Coordinate fleet, equipment, and materials to ensure crews are fully prepared each day.
- Lead safety efforts: Enforce safety standards, ensure proper training, and maintain compliance documentation.
- Support snow operations (if applicable): Ensure teams are prepared for events and follow through on post-event quality.
- Partner with sales: Review scopes and bids to ensure operational feasibility and protect profitability.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in horticulture, turf management, business, or a related field preferred.
- 7+ years of commercial landscape maintenance operations experience with multi-crew leadership; 3+ years managing supervisors/foremen required.
- Proven job-cost management and field productivity leadership (labor budgeting, route efficiency, and margin protection).
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety, enforce standards, and coach teams with consistency and fairness.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to operate company vehicles and travel frequently within assigned territory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)
- Experience with Aspire or a similar CRM software platform
- NALP (or equivalent) landscape credentials aligned to maintenance/turf/ornamental/irrigation specialties.
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour outreach training (general industry or construction as aligned to scope).
- Snow & Ice credential (e.g., Certified Snow Professional or equivalent).
- Ability to obtain state pesticide applicator/technician credentials if applicable to service offerings.
